Washington, Feb 1 The U.S. State department has warned that terror groups may be planning attacks against India and has issued an advisory asking its nationals to be alert while visiting the country.
"The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to ongoing security concerns in India," the state department said.
"The U.S. government continues to receive information that terrorist groups may be planning attacks in India," it said.
The advisory goes on to add that terrorists and their sympathisers have demonstrated their willingness and capability to attack targets where US citizens or Westerners are known to congregate or visit.
The state department reminded US citizens that the November 26-29, 2008 Mumbai attacks were a vivid reminder that hotels, markets and other public places are especially targeted by terror groups and asked them to always practise good security, maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile.
The US embassy had earlier issued travel alerts cautioning US citizens of security concerns towards the end of last year. The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks had left 166 people dead, including 26 foreigners.
