Indian parliamentary delegation to visit Bahrain

Dubai, Sep 25: An Indian parliamentary delegation, headed by veteran communist leader Somnath Chatterjee, will visit Bahrain this week.

Chatterjee, speaker of India's lower house of parliament, will meet Bahraini MPs, including parliament chairman Khalifa Al Dhahrani as well as Shura Council (Upper House of Parliament) chairman Faisal Al Mousawi during his visit, the Gulf Daily News reported.

"The visit of a high-level parliamentary delegation from the world's largest democracy to Bahrain will prove mutually beneficial to both countries," Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Balkrishna Shetty said.

"The visit is important especially in the context of the forthcoming high-level visits from Bahrain to India," he added.

"Crown Prince and Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Commander-in-Chief Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa will visit India later in the year and it will be followed by the first state visit to India by His Majesty King Hamad early next year," the ambassador added.

The Indian delegation will include members from both Lok Sabha (the lower house) and Rajya Sabha (the upper house).

The Co-ordination Committee of Indian Associations (CCIA) will host a reception in their honour Friday.
