Funds raised for injured worker
Dubai, May 17: Members of the Indian community in Bahrain are raising funds for the treatment of an Indian worker who has been hospitalised for over two months following an accident at his workplace.
According to a report in the Gulf Daily News newspaper, Koovachalil Rajesh, 29, sustained serious head injuries when he fell from the scaffolding of a building under construction in Askar while doing air-conditioning work on March 13.
He was admitted to the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital (BDF) in West Riffa where he lay unconscious for two months.
A spokesman of Gulf Breeze, for whom Rajesh worked, was quoted in the newspaper report as saying that the company is making arrangements to send the critically injured worker to Kerala in India.
"We hope to send him next week as a stretcher case, accompanied by a trained nurse," the spokesman told the newspaper.
Rajesh, who hails from Vatakara in Kozhikode, Kerala, is the only breadwinner of his family, which comprises his wife, mother and two young daughters, one of whom is only six months old.
The Vadakara Association in Bahrain initiated the drive to collect funds for Rajesh. It was later joined by two other organizations - the Surya Charitable and Cultural Association and the Mahe Association.
Vadakara Association president Ramath Haridas was quoted by the newspaper as saying that Rajesh's condition is improving.
"Doctors have advised that he should undergo a prolonged treatment, which is very expensive," Haridas told the newspaper.
There are over 130,000 Indians in Bahrain, many of them working on contracts with local companies.
