Sharjah NRI's body cremated

Dubai, June 13: The body of M.K. Madhavan, president of the Sharjah Indian Association who died in an accident last week, has been cremated in Sharjah.

His body was kept in the association's hall in Sharjah, where hundreds of people paid homage. It was then taken to the public crematorium near a cement factory in Sharjah on June 11 afternoon.

The 55-year-old entrepreneur and well-known community leader was on his way home from the Sharjah Indian Association office in Al Yarmook with four other Indian friends at around 9.30 p.m. on the night of June 7 when his car overturned and plunged into the sea.

The driver apparently failed to control the car after reaching an open area by the sea. Madhavan, along with the driver of the car, Mohan Lal Raghavan, died on the spot. The other three occupants of the car were pulled out safely.

According to reports here, arrangements are being made to repatriate Raghavan's body to India.
